109 Classic Who Rewind: The Two Doctors
from Noobs & the Whovian
Live from Master Closet Studios, you’re listening to the only podcast on the internet that’s 80% Androgum: Noobs and the Whovian! My name is Austin and I’m the Whovian, and these are my sons Corbin and Tripp and we’re the noobs! And from the St. Louis Annex Offices, we have a special guest: Jared! This is the podcast that introduces a whole new generation to Doctor Who by watching an episode each week and discussing it from the perspective of a dad who’s seen it before, and two sons who haven’t. Welcome to Episode 109 covering Classic Who Season 22 episodes 7-9: The Two Doctors. This is the one where the Sixth Doctor and the Second Doctor join up to form the ultimate team of jerkwad good guys and stop the Androgum and Sontarans from achieving time travel. Production notes Story # 140Originally aired February 16 – March 2, 1985 to 6.6, 6 and 6.9 million viewersWritten by: Robert HolmesDirected by: Peter Moffatt Noobs and the Whovian is brought to you by R5 Website Management. Checklist Creature of the weekSontarans – man they didn’t look as good as the modern Sontarans. Even more potatoeyAndrogumJiggery PokerySonicTARDISUh, is Two’s TARDIS black? So there’s some kind of symbiotic relationship between the Doctor and the TARDIS?It has to primed by the Rassilon Imprimatur. A symbiotic print within the physiology of a Time Lord. Random (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Other stuff we noticed It seems bizarre that the episode/serial starts with Two instead of SixPeri: Perhaps you should see a doctor. Six: Are you trying to be funny?Violence is alien to the Time Lord nature.Really?! Apparently they’ve changed!Banana in the pocket! So, the mind-slip caused Six to seek out the help of a doctor, Dastari, which is exactly where Two was on the other end of the mind-slip.But if I were dead then and here now, it means I’m at the epicenter of the engulfing chaos. If anything happens to myself as a result of it, I’ll never forgive himself! Two referred to Stike as a nurse! “Tea-time already, nurse?”Was Shockeye supposed to have been bending steel restraints? That’s not why it’s called shepherds pie!So, when coronic acid comes into contact with Sontaran skin, it turns into seaweed? The scene with Two and Shockeye discussing food was just bizarre Oscar’s death was bizarre as well. I thought he was overreacting, but then he was actually dead! Who’s Who? Who is Jamie? The butcher called him Tellurian.Apparently, Tellus is a Latin synonym for Terra, meaning earthTwo said his companion isn’t for sale. How long was that unsheathed knife up against his skin in his boot?Who is the Second Doctor?According to the subtitles, the Second Doctor is Doctor 1 and the Sixth Doctor is Doctor 2One meal a day is quite sufficientSNAP!Had Two met Six before? Two met One through Five, I know. How’d he recognize Six?Who is the Sixth Doctor?Somehow I can’t imagine the Doctor sitting around for hours waiting on a fish to biteHe knows a computer when he talks to one. He knows an Androgum when he sees one.I closed off my respiratory passages. How did you breathe? With great difficulty.I am interested in everything. He straight up murdered Shockeye! What about Shockeye? He’s been, uh, mothballed. Can We Talk About Broken Timelines?! Having Two and Jamie show up in this episode either breaks continuity, or has to make some prose stories into cannon. Overall impressions Does it hold up?Bad special effectsMakeupActingOverall rating out of 10 –Austin – 7 butcher’s machetesCorbin – 7 plastic legsTripp -3 Androgum DoctorsJared – 5 vegetarian Doctors Creep Level – out of 500 Austin – 225Corbin – 1Tripp – 200Jared – 250 for Shockeye the Androgum wanting to eat humans all the time, -245 for everything else = 5 levels (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Theories Braden asked which Doctor that was and I explained that it was the Second Doctor who was about to team up with the Sixth Doctor. Tripp then said “I wanna see an episode with Thirteen where she meets up with Fifteen, and then they have to use that actor later as the Fifteenth Doctor!” The Game Plan Next week we are talking about the documentary An Adventure in Space and Time.
