after leaving christianity I didn’t know who I was anymore, and I realized why: I never knew who I was to begin with! in christianity, we are taught to hate the real us - jesus died for that nasty thing! as christians, we took sick pleasure in hating the authentic self, and being thankful for the plastic one instead! today we talk about the beauty of looking at the roots of who we really are, and sitting with that being who is already perfect “as we are, not as we should be, because no one is as they should be.” - brennan manning
