from T-Time with Tori Totlis

Tara Bateman and I sit down with Missy Farr-Kaye, head coach of the ASU Women's golf team and recent inductee into the Arizona Golf Hall of Fame. Listen in as Missy shares her journey in women's golf and discusses the sport's evolution, including advancements in training and equipment. Tara also offers a window into the world of caddying, reflecting on the physical demands of the job, and highlighting the surge of young talent in the field. Missy shares her expertise on rebuilding a divided team and the powerful influence of mentors in transforming a struggling squad. She also gives her thoughts on the impact of recent NCAA rule changes and the rise of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) agreements on college athletics. We learn how these developments are reshaping the landscape of college sports, influencing recruitment, and blurring the lines between amateur and professional status. We also touch on the importance of self-motivation for junior golfers, the necessary life skills for success both on and off the course, and the challenges of athlete transfers in the current college sports environment.   About Missy Farr-Kaye: Missy Farr-Kaye, arguably one of the most respected golf coaches in the country, spent 13 seasons as an assistant coach and then associate head coach of the Sun Devil women's golf program. An accomplished golfer in her own right, Missy was a member of the Sun Devil golf team under Hall of Fame head coach Linda Vollstedt and helped Arizona State bring home its first of seven NCAA Titles as a senior in 1990. In addition to all her on-the-course accomplishments, she has been equally inspirational and driven off the course. She has defeated cancer on two different occasions, most recently announcing she was cancer-free days before leading Sun Devil Women's Golf through a 2021 season that ended with a fifth-place NCAA finish.
