117. James - Chapter 1 - If you lack wisdom ask God for it - September 12, 2022

Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley.  Today we will be going over Proverb 31.  I will then key in on verse 4:  An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones.  I will key in on the first part of that verse.  For the husbands out there, this is my advice for you - if you treat your wife as though she is a Proverb 31 woman, she can (and eventually will) become that.  Treat your wife as she is the most important person in the world to you (because she should be) and see what happens.  Today, I will begin a study on the book of James.  For those of you who may not know James was a half-brother of Jesus.  He grew up with Jesus and lived in the same household with him.  So - when you hear James speak, you very well could be hearing the words of Jesus.  There are so many practical applications that we can learn from the entire book of James. Today I will be focusing on James, Chapter 1: verses 1-11 only.  I will read these verses in their entirety.  From these verse (2-11) I came up with three things that we can come away with:  1.  Trials will come our way - (it doesn't matter how we live our lives; trials will come our way.  Whether you live a blessed life or a life with confusion and anxiety mainly will depend on how you react to the unexpected circumstances which life brings our way; 2. If you lack wisdom, ask God for it (and He will give it to you).  I have quoted this verses many times since I began this podcast on April 1st, but today I will add a twist to it.  You must ask "by faith."  If there is not any faith when you pray, the wisdom will not come your way.  Think about that!; 3.  The poor and rich view life differently - (we'll get into that a bit later in the 2nd chapter of James.  I will focus on the rich man - (and that he should not put his faith on his money, or riches, but he should put his faith in God).  God is our source.  If you are poor and unexpected circumstances come, it is an opportunity to learn patience.
