Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley
by Bill Kelley
This is Bill Kelley. Please join me as we hear the word's of Solomon - who many people consider the wisest man who ever lived. We will go over the proverb of the day every day and I will pick a verse (or several) and expound on them. I am believing that, by hearing the wisdom of Solomon, we will become wiser and our lives will begin to improve - as we follow what the word tells us to do.

379. Your Job is Your Ministry - #3 - September 14, 2023
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 14. I will then key in on verse 2 - He who walks in his uprightness fears the Lord, But he who is perverse in his ways despises Him. Friends, on Monday's podcast I went over verses 2-6 of Proverb 11 (if you did not get a chance to listen to that, I invite you to check it out). Yesterday, we went over verse 10 of Proverb 13. The text I am using for this series is Ephesians, Chapter 4: verses 11-16. Friends, we all are a part of the Body of Christ. We may not have one of the offices of the five-fold ministry, but we are all called to do something. Regardless of what your job is, you should be doing it as unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23) - and you should consider your job as your primary ministry. If you "do" Colossians 3:23 and do your job as unto the Lord, you will do your job with excellence. My question (continuing where I left off in yesterday's podcast) - if you do not like the job you are currently performing my question to you is, "Do you have a good enough relationship with your immediate supervisor that you can talk to him (her) about it? Could you possible be better suited for a different job in the company? Could you maybe take a couple classes (at the local community college) to perhaps get a higher-paying job in the company? Call to action - Ask yourself if you have a good enough relationship with your supervisor to talk plainly and clearly (and honestly) with him (her)? Suggested scripture reading: 1. Reread today's proverb, Proverb 14 in its entirety.

378. Your Job is Your Ministry - #2 - September 13, 2023
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 13. I will then key in on verse 10 - By pride comes nothing but strife, But with the well-advised is wisdom. I will then remind the audience of the verse I brought up on Monday's podcast - Proverb 11: verse 2 -When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom. Friends, pride is never a good thing. I will then review the passage of scripture I introduced on Monday's podcast: Ephesians, Chapter 4: verses 11-16. God has called some people to be in the ministry (such as a pastor or teacher), but if you have not been called into one of the five offices mentioned in these verses, let me remind you that the job that you are currently in is your ministry. On Monday's podcast I mentioned that the most important thing in life is having a vibrant relationship with God. The second most important thing in life is having a vibrant relationship with your spouse. The third most important relationship is the relationship with your kids. Finally (and not before) is your job. Many people put their job as #1, or #2, or #3 - and if you do that, many times your relationships will suffer or, possibly, end in divorce or estrangement. I go over some important questions to ask anyone that does not look forward to going to their job everyday. Call to Action: Where are you in all of this? Do you enjoy your job, and going to it every day? Pray about the things I discussed on today's podcast and plan on making a few changes. Suggested scripture reading - Reread today's proverb, Proverb 13 in its entirety.

She goes into great depth about how Charis Bible College has changed her life. She begins with first year and the foundation she received, second year when she began to grow through IAGs, and going on a mission trip. She then discusses the new revelation she received about Practical Government. She then discusses getting married last year to Gary, and closes with her experiences on a recent mission trip to Africa.

376. Your Job is Your Ministry - #1 - September 11, 2023
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 11. I will then spend a good amount of time on verses 2-6. If any of you are having difficulty in a particular area of your life, I believe this podcast will be beneficial to you. These verses contrast having integrity & being righteous (and having good things happen in your life) as opposed to the perversity of the unfaithful (not having integrity & being righteous) - and having bad things happen to you. Friends, the most important thing in our lives should be our relationship with God. Everything we do in life should flow outside of that relationship. How you act at home with your spouse and kids, how you act in your workplace, etc. I go over Colossians 3: verse 23 & then go over Ephesians, Chapter 4: verses 11-16. I will then review verses 3 & 6 of Proverb 11. I will pick up where I left off on Wednesday's podcast.

375. Whoever Finds Wisdom Finds Life - September 8, 2023
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 8. I will then key in on verse 35 - For whoever finds me finds life, And obtains favor from the Lord. Friends, this is your host, Bill Kelley, and Proverb 8 is like the Mona Lisa of the Proverbs. This may be the best of all of the 31 chapters. That being the case I ask that, if you are able, to get comfortable (on a couch, or sofa, or a recliner, and close your eyes and meditate as I read these 36 verses pertaining solely to the topic of wisdom - and the benefits of having wisdom in your life. Today, I will go over the commentaries offered in my Bible (the Nelson Study Bible) covering this entire chapter. God's will pertaining to Wisdom is revealed. He clearly has a desire that each of us obtain wisdom. Call to Action - find some time this weekend to spend time with your spouse and kids, and let them know how much God loves them and how much you love them. Suggested scripture reading - 1. Reread the proverb of the day, Proverb 8 today; read Proverb 9 tomorrow; and read Proverb 10 on Sunday. Friends, I am going to begin making efforts to improve this podcast. But, to improve anything takes funds. If you enjoy this podcast and listen to it on a regular basis I ask that you consider being a partner to this podcast. Should you desire to do that I ask that you donate $10 a month (I believe your choice is $9.99) or give a one time offering of $100 - each year. You can also choose to give a one time offering of any amount that the Lord tells you to give. Any money that is received will go into improving this podcast or be given to other ministries. Have a blessed weekend!

374. People are Drawn to Positive People - September 7, 2023
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 7. I will then key in on verse 24 - Now therefore, listen to me, my children; Pay attention to the words of my mouth. Friends, this is a plea from the author of this proverb - it could be God talking to you; it could be Wisdom talking to you. But he wants you to be serious about this. Pay attention to the words of my mouth. Friends, our words are powerful. When God spoke, things were created (i.e. Light, Be - and there was light). When Jesus spoke, storms ceased (Peace, Be still - and the waves calmed down). Our words are also powerful. Proverb 18:21 tells us that "Death and life are in the Power of the tongue". Listen to the power of those words. Friends, we need to be mindful of the words we speak - whether they are positive (the glass is nearly half full); or whether they are positive (my glass is half empty). Listen to the difference in those two phrases. Call to Action - Ask yourself (or pray to God) and really think about whether you are a "glass half full" or a "glass half empty" type of person. Suggested scripture reading - Reread today's proverb, Proverb 7 in its entirety.

373. These Seven Things the Lord Hates - September 6, 2023
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 6. I will then break Proverb 6 down into five sections: verses 1-5 (called Dangerous Promises) - these verses talk of the mistake of co-signing for a loan for someone you do not know very well. You should do all you can to get out of that obligation; verses 6-11 (The Folly of Indolence) - this is another word for being lazy. Friends, if you have responsibilities and people look to you for finances, you cannot be this way. You need to get a job and earn money to handle the responsibilitiesthat you have; verses 12-15 (the Wicked Man) - be careful who you associate with and who you seek counsel from. Before you entrust people with your problems and deep secrets make sure that you know them well and that they can be trusted; verses 16-19 (The Seven things the Lord hates) - Friends, we need to be aware of these. Whenever there is a list in the Bible like this, the importance of the passage is actually in reverse order - so the thing God hates more than anything is sowing discord among the brother (we know this as gossip - talking about people behind their backs). verses 20-35 (the perils of adultery - notice how many verses are assigned to this topic). Verse 26 states: For by means of a harlot A man is reduced to a crust of break; And an adulteress will prey upon his precious life. Call to Action: Ask God if you are having issues with any of these five areas and - if you are - pray that God would give you wisdom for how to deal with the situation and improve it.

371. Be Strong and of Good Courage - September 4, 2023
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 4. I will then key in on verses 1-4. As I read these verses, I feel as though I am on the lap of God and that He is talking directly to me. He wants each and every one of us to read His word, to get to know Him intimately. Someone who truly understood this was Joshua - Moses's military commander and long-time assistant. As we finish the book of Deuteronomy, Moses has just died and as we begin the Book of Joshua God is commissioning Joshua to lead Israel. I will read verses 1-9 in their entirety. As I read this passage of scripture I want you to pretend that God is speaking to you personally. Call to Action - Ask yourself if God's Word is truly important to you? Are you reading it on a regular basis, are you meditating on what you read in it? Suggested scripture reading - 1. Reread today's proverb, Proverb 4 in its entirety; 2. Reread Joshua Chapter 1 in its entirety

370. Living the Abundant Life - September 1, 2023
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 1. I will then break down this very important proverb into three sections: verses 1-7 (entitled The Beginning of Knowledge). Friends, in order to have knowledge you first have to have the fear of the Lord. You have to acknowledge that He is God (and that you are not)! verses 8-19 (entitled Shun Evil Counsel). Friends, it is vitally important who we seek advice & counsel from. Seek someone whom you admire, and are living the good life. These people are successful in their jobs, have vibrant marriages, and their kids are content, and happy. These people usually are church goers, solid Christians, and are well verses in scripture. verses 20-33 (entitled the Call of Wisdom). These verses are wisdom itself speaking out to us. Friends, God wants each and every one of us to have wisdom. I will close by reading Isaiah, Chapter 55, in its entirety. This chapter is title An Invitation to Abundant Life. This is the life God (and Jesus - and the Holy Spirit) desire for us to have. Call to Action- In prayer, ask God if you are living the abundant life? (if you are living the life He would have you to live). Suggested scripture reading - 1. Reread today's proverb, Proverb 1 in its entirety; 2. Reread Isaiah, Chapter 55 in its entirety; 3. Read Proverb 2 tomorrow; 4. Read Proverb 3 on Sunday.

651. Hosea - Chapter 9 (#3) - Ephraim will Bring out his Children to the Murderer - September 30, 2024
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 30. I will then key in on verse 5 - Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Friends, it is always beneficial to open the Bible to receive encouragement. We know it will always be pure, and that it will always be true. On today's lesson I will begin by going over the three points I had gone over on last Thursday's (Episode 649) podcast. We will then continue our study of the minor prophet Hosea by going over verses 10-13 of the 9th chapter. By the end of today's lesson there are three things I ask that you consider:1. I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness.2. No birth, no pregnancy, & no conception.3. Epraim will bring out his children to the murderer.Scripture reference on today's podcast: the entire 25th chapter of the Book of NumbersCall to Action - How often do you open the Bible? Do you have a current Bible-reading plan? Have you ever read the entire Bible? Have you ever opened the Bible to the Old Testament?

1000. The Lord Bless you and Keep you - April 27, 2026
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 27. I will then key in on verse 2 - Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips. Friends, there are times in life when we are satisfied with things that we have accomplished in life. However, we should not boast about them. According to this verse we should let others praise us, and not our own mouths. Everything that we do in life in solely due to God, and His goodness - who gives us the ability to do the things that we do. On today's podcast I will begin by thanking everyone who has listened to any of the 1000 episodes that I have published. Beginning on April 1, 2022, this is my 1000th episode (and my last). God has told me that it is time to move on to other ventures (which He has not yet revealed to me). Delight yourself, therefore, in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.Scriptures referenced on today's podcast:Proverbs 27:2; Proverbs 3:5-6; Philippians 4:6-7; Psalm 37:4

999. Scripture Verses on Trust - April 24, 2026
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 24. I will then key in on verse 10 - If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. Friends, in life many things will happen that we did not see coming. It is how we react to this things (circumstances) that will determine whether we are successful and happy in life (as opposed to bitter and unsuccessful). On today's podcast I will be going over 10 verses having to do with trust. I'm hoping that you consider writing these verses down in a book (or a sheet of paper) - so that you can come back to them over and over again when hardships in life come your way.Scripture verses referenced on today's podcast:Jeremiah 17:1-8; Proverbs 3:5; Matthew 6:25-27; Psalm 20:6-7; Romans 8:28; Hebrews 13:8; Psalm 56:3-4; Mark 4:40; Isaiah 26:3-4; Psalm 37:3-5

998. Scripture Verses on Joy (#2) The Hope of the Righteous brings joy - April 23, 2026
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 23. I will then key in on verse 13 - Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. Friends, many of you listening today have children living in the house with you. It is good (and the proper thing to do) to discipline your child/children when they are disobedient or make a mistake of some kind. This is the process of training your child in the way that they should go (Proverb 22:6). This (disciplining them will not hurt them - but, quite the opposite, will benefit them). On today's podcast I will be going over 8 additional verses on joy (if you did not get a chance to tune into yesterday's podcast - Episode 997) I invite you to check it out. By the end of today's lesson there are three things I ask that you consider:1. Eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart (friends, you will either be joyful in life - or a sourpuss). God would always prefer that we are joyful.2. The hope of the righteous brings joy.3. Though you have not seen Him, you live Him (we are referring to Jesus here - none of us have seen Him in person, and yet we have faith in Him, and believe in Him).Scripture verses referenced on today's lesson:Proverb 23:13; Isaiah 9:3; Ecclesiastes 9:7; 1 Peter 1:8-9; 2 John - verse 12; Luke 15:7; Nehemiah 8:10; Esther 8:17Call to Action - If you have never received (and made) Jesus into your heart, I invite you to repeat a simple prayer after me (and ensure that you will be with Him for eternity in Heaven).

997. Scripture Verses on Joy - The testing of your faith produces perseverance - April 22, 2026
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 22. I will then key in on verse 4 - The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life. Friends, this is such a wonderful promise of God. First of all it tells us the importance of having humility as a way of life. We need to put away any pride in our life, and have the opposite disposition (that of humility). If we combine that with the fear of the Lord (a reverence of God) they we will have riches and honor and a long life. On today's podcast I will be going over eight verses on joy. By the end of today's lesson there are three things I ask that you consider:1. The testing of your faith produces perseverence (patience, steadfast love).2. Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.3. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.Scriptures referenced on today's podcast:Romans 15:13; Romans 12:12; James 1:2-3; Galatians 5:22-23;John 16:24; Proverb 17:22; Philippians 4:4; Psalm 47:1Call to Action - Are you aware of how much God truly loves you? 996. Scripture Verses of Mercy - April 20, 2026
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 20. I will then key in on verse 4 - The sluggard does not plow in the autumn; he will seek at harvest and have nothing. Friends, this verse cautions about the sluggard - or lazy person. If you are lazy, and don't plant seeds (through hard work) you will not receive your harvest. Galatians 6:7 tells us that we will reap what we sow. If you sow laziness, then you will not reap a harvest of good things in your life. On today's podcast we will go over five scripture verses on the concept of mercy. By the end of today's podcast there are three things I ask that you consider:1. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy - this verse is a perfect example of the spiritual law that you will reap what you sow).2. Be merciful even as your Father is merciful - friends, whether you show mercy because you will receive mercy (reaping what you sow) or because God and Jesus showed mercy ( and you want to emulate them) either way you will be blessed in the end.3. I desire mercy, not sacrifice.Scripture verses referenced on today's podcast:Proverb 20:4; Matthew 5:7; Galatians 6:7; Luke 6:36; Hebrews 4:16; Matthew 9:13; Ephesians 2:4-5Call to Action - How willing are you to demonstrate the love of God (either in word and deed (or sharing the gospel message) with others that you either come into contact with - or know they need to hear the message?

995. Go your way, your faith has made you well - April 17, 2026
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 17. I will then key in on verse 13 - If anyone returns evil for good, evil will not depart from his house. Friends, this is a very profound verse. It is bad enough to do evil by itself, but, if someone does good to you and you, in turn return evil to them, it is worse that simply doing evil. This verse is like a curse - if you do this - evil will never go away from your house. I hope that everyone takes this verse seriously. On today's podcast I will be going over six quotes from the Bible on faith. Two are quotes made by Jesus (both being in the gospel according to Mark); two are from the apostle Paul (both found in the Book of Romans); and two from James - the half brother of Jesus (both found in the Book of James). Scriptures referenced on today's podcast:Proverb 17:13; Mark 10:46-52; Mark 16:16; Romans 10:9-10; Romans 1:17; James 2:17; James 1:5-6Call to Action - Ask yourself where your faith is? Do you consider yourself to have faith? Are you satisfied with the faith (or amount of it) that you have)?

994. Scripture verses on Faith - April 16, 2026
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 16. I will then key in on verse 3 - Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. Friends, this verse will only apply - if you have faith. On today's podcast I will be going over 7 verses of the Bible that have the word faith in the verse. Having faith is such an important part of every Christian. To complete verse 3 - if you commit your work to the Lord, your plans will be established! What an awesome promise. So, plan on doing everything that you attempt in life unto the Lord (and things will go well for you). On today's podcast we will be going over the importance of having faith in your life. By the end of today's podcast there are three things I ask that you consider:1. For by grace you have been saved through faith.2. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.3. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.Scriptures verses referenced on today's podcast:Proverb 16:3; Matthew 21:22; Romans 10:17; Hebrews 11:6; Hebrews 11:1; Mark 11:22-24; 2 Corinthians 5:7; Ephesians 2:8Call to Action - Friends, ask yourself these questions - Do you believe you have faith? Are you satisfied with the amount of faith that you have? If not, do what Romans 10:17 says - Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. In other words, open the Bible and begin to read it.

993. Scripture Verses on Encouragement - April 15, 2026
Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 15. I will then key in on verse 4 - A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit. Friends, many times we are in a situation where we want to "point out" to people things they are doing wrong (in our opinion). Friends, how we go about this can make all the difference in the world. If we approach them lovingly, there is a much better chance that whoever it is we are "correcting (our spouse, a child, a parent, a good friend, or a fellow employee) they will take our advice and maybe change what they are doing. One thing for sure - if you do it with anger, they will NOT hear what you have to say. On today's podcast I will go over five verses which have to do with encouraging people. By the end of today's lesson there are three things I ask that you consider:1. The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you.2. But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.3. Encourage one another and build each other up.Scriptures referenced on today's podcast:Proverb 15:4; Deuteronomy 31:7-8; 1 Thessalonians 5:11; Isaiah 40:31; Isaiah 43:2; Joshua 1:1-9Call to Action - Begin to encourage the people that you come in contact with (whether they are people that you are close to - or even people that you have never met).

Friends, hate is a very strong word (and one I would not try to use very often). Welcome to Wisdom Today with Bill Kelley. Today we will be going over Proverb 6. I will then key in on verse 27 - Can a man carry fire next to his chest and his clothes not be burned? Friends, we could rephrase this - how close can we come to sin and not enter into it? Friends, we all have areas of our life that have given us issues in the past. Many times we've moved on from these. However, if you allow yourself to enter into temptation it is possible to enter back into it (even if you haven't participated in that activity for over a year). I will then key in on verse 28 - Do not say to your neighbor, "Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it" - when you have it with you.
