118: Subtypes and the Enneagram-This may be why you are being mistyped on the Enneagram
from The Enneagram Edge with Host Tracy O’Malley · host Tracy O'Malley
Subtypes are one of the top three reasons you’re being mistyped.Subtypes are emotional patterns: a passion, vice, and/or a basic human instinct.Listen nowAs a reminder, the subtypes fall into three categories: Self preservation, social, and one-to-oneWe use all three of these, but one is definitely dominant. They help to describe our core concern or focus of our everyday lives and explain how we show up in the world. And they’re just as important as our main type!Today I’m going to breakdown all 27 of these subtypesInstincts get triggered into action throughout the day and are the main drivers of our types. The reason the subtypes are so important is once you know a person’s instinctual subtypes, you can understand even more about their motivations and why they do what they do.The last one in the stack of subtypes is our blind spotFor example, because social is at the bottom of my stack as an 8, it’s my blind spot. Knowing this, I have to intentionally be aware of how this is important and shows up for other people I love and lead. Understanding the full depth of our core personalityTo be the most well-rounded versions of ourselves, it’s great to be aware of where all three of our subtypes rank and how to give love and bring awareness to the one at the bottom of the stack. Ready to break down all 27 types? Listen in to learn more.Quotes:0:23 Subtypes are, honestly one of the top 3 reasons I believe most of you are being mistyped on the Enneagram 2:48 Your subtype can change, but your main core Enneagram type doesn’t. 8:23 The 1-to-1, 1’s focus on making other people and society as a whole more perfect. 10:04 All my social 2’s out there seek to gain approval from others through being powerful, competent and influential. 12:09The 1-to-1 3’s focus on creating an image that is appealing to others and supporting and pleasing the people around them. 14:401 to 1 fours are more assertive and competitive; these fours are not afraid to ask for what they need or complain when they don’t get it. 16:14 The 1-to-1 5’s have more of a stronger need to connect with other individuals under the right conditions. 17:10The self-preservation six are the more reserved six, they are more actively fearful; they are more in flight. 20:15 7’s are the most prone to addiction of some sorts because they want to avoid hard feelings. 24:24My social 9’s focus on working hard to support the groups they’re a part of in a way of seeking comfort and belonging.
