Hello and welcome back to day seven I think it is of TVG every day. So today I'm going to talk to you guys about a technique that I Borrowed that I borrow a lot called the buy second rule now. I didn't come up with it I'm not taking credit for at all or cradco to know Robins who is a motivational speaker She's done to next talkers. She's a lawyer in America TV host or thought all those kind of good things You can look around I suggest following her on Instagram as well because she's always posting stuff that really resonates But this one in particular resonates with me a lot particularly when it comes to fitness But also when it just comes to things in general that I need to do that I maybe don't want to do so It's called the five second rule now for example So you need to go the gym where you need to go for a run because it's on your training program You don't want to you don't feel like it you pretty much just cannot be fucked going fair call too So her five second rule goes like this.
So say you're sitting there on the couch You know you're scrolling through a tik tok you just like you shoes are sitting at your feet But they're not on your feet, you know, you've got your head friends sitting next to you so like you are Ready to go. You just can't be bothered. You just cannot get yourself up and going now I don't see that you sit there and you go five four three two one and then you get up and do it So you know, she uses an example where it's like, you know, doesn't want to get up out of bed And as long and then go five four three two one get up now. I do this often I do this a lot I'm time poor and you know, I've got two little kids and by the time it's my turn to train or my turn to do the thing I want to do sometimes I'm just feel too tired or I'm not motivated enough where I just cannot be bothered So, you know the other day I want to go for a run down on the river I drove there because I don't live, you know, right near the river and I parked and I was like, oh, maybe I'll just walk Maybe maybe if I just walk it'll be enough now.
I have a goal that is running base So walking was never gonna be enough. I don't know why I ever thought that that would be enough And so I got out the car, you know, sort it out my headphones, put my keys in my pocket, got the right playlist on, put my phone in my pocket And I was just I just said to myself, there's nothing stopping you. There's literally nothing stopping you like what is going on And I often just say to myself, you know, just grow up just cut the crap and grow up and just do the thing whatever it is So it's faulting the washing and stuck in the dishwasher, you know, getting in the shower I love showers, but sometimes it just feels like such a mess of effort, you know, getting dressed All the things that sometimes you just can't be bothered doing and I got out of the car and I started walking along the boardwalk thing on the river And I was like, you know, nice feel the story, but this is really nice and a couple of people ran past me a couple people walked in the opposite direction And I was just like, you know what? Pull your finger out and I just went five four three two one run and I did and I ran and I ran four Ks I ran two Ks down two Ks back and quite easily not without puffing obviously But I ran it and I got to the end and I obviously was, you know, had exerted in a gym felt puffed and whatever But I was like, I'm so glad I did that you're never not glad that you did the training You never not relieved that you folded the washing, you know You're never not happy that you had a shower, you're never not upset that you went into the gym session It doesn't always have to be the best gym session or the best run or like, you know, the most intensive shower or the, you know, the most eloquent folding of the washing I still don't know how to fold a fitted sheet, don't at me, I've tried to google it, I just don't care But you get it done, right?
So I use this technique a lot if I am running and I stopped walking because it's a hill or something Instead of saying to myself, oh, as soon as I get to that next parlour run or as soon as I get to that car that parked car run Or as soon as I get to that tree I'll run because I get there and I'm like, oh, just wait till I get to the next one And it's just ridiculous, whereas if you just kind of like keep walking, you know, you're walking out the hill, whatever, and just go 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, run And you do it and you get it done, it's done, you know? It's a really good technique, I urge you to use it, take this one on board and let me know how you go with it See you tomorrow guys
