121,000 Acres of Your Public Land Go Up for Auction Tomorrow

Tomorrow the Bureau of Land Management is auctioning 147 oil and gas parcels covering 121,000 acres across Utah and Colorado. Some sit near Canyonlands and the Colorado River. Some overlap with the Old Spanish National Historic Trail. Some are in landscapes with thousands of years of Indigenous presence. Conservation groups including the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance and the Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks protested every Utah parcel. BLM didn’t defer a single one. Oil companies only purchased 17% of the acreage offered to them over the last two years - they nominate land to lock it up, not to drill. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act slashed royalty rates by 25%, costing taxpayers an estimated $230 million. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum called Americans who fight for public lands “financially illiterate” while pitching their value to BlackRock executives. The outdoor recreation economy produced $1.3 trillion in economic output and supported 5.2 million jobs in 2024. Call your senators at 202-224-3121.
