Food is medicine, be wise with how you use it. First off - let’s not subscribe to the theory that we shouldn’t reward ourselves with food. Food is vital. Food is life. Many cultures have used food to celebrate for centuries - it’s the center of every family gathering, holiday, party… Don’t discount the power of good food. Where it gets dangerous is when we withhold food and save it as a reward - always celebrate. Celebrate the failures, the losses, the endings - celebrate how far you’ve come, celebrate what you’ve learned, celebrate anyway. Never without food from yourself because you feel unworthy of it - it’s the medicine that holds what you need to heal, to grow, to keep on growing. For the most part, I've found keeping a strict diet to be counter productive in your mental health healing. Adding a new challenge to your life, something to potentially feel bad about when you miss the mark, it’s not helpful for someone who’s already struggling with self worth and motivation to do your daily life. Let’s keep it simple.
