It’s not really about ‘doing it all’ it’s about doing everything that matters - prioritization and clarity on purpose are important keys to this. Think of the balls in the jar experiment - if you fill the jar with the littlest balls first, you don’t leave any room for the big ones to be added. You can fit a lot in, but it’s a lot of what doesn’t really matter. Fill the jar with the big ones, the important pieces first and there is air space left over, gaps that the little ones can fill in. Like it or not, you’re going to have to learn to love yourself if you want any of the personal growth, mental health, or happy hacks to stick. If you’re not loving yourself, you’re not really believing you’re worthy of anything better than you’ve already got. It may be a controversial idea, but you cannot fully love others if you don’t first love yourself. If you’re not loving yourself, you’re not willing to accept the love others attempt to give you, and that means you’re not fully loving them to your greatest extent. Self love is not selfish. Self care is not selfish. They are the basic human needs you keep trying to skip over. Letting your soul run dry for the sake of putting others first is slowly killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. In that version of the story, no one wins. I prefer the story where true love saves the day. That’s your story. 146 | Setting soul goals - becoming who you’re really meant to be.
Here’s the thing, it’s not really the new year. Today is simply the day we reset our calendars and dive into a new planner. But in nature, this is Winter. Winter is a time of rest and renewal - the time for new beginnings doesn’t happen until March. By all means, make a resolution for the year, set goals in that fresh new planner and put important dates on your calendar. But DO NOT get your panties in a bunch and get down on yourself for not suddenly waking up a new person today. This is literally the worst time of the natural year to try to become something you aren’t. Here’s what I’m doing differently.
