13. Nothing to Prove

from Embracing Enough · host Dina Scippa

It’s about time we kicked heteronormativity to the curb! Never heard of the term before? It’s the idea that binary gender identity and heterosexual orientation (meaning, there are only two sexual orientations and genders) are the norm. In this episode, we discuss with Kayani and Chett what their experiences have been when your identity doesn't align with heteronormativity.  In this honest and brave discussion, we unpack the pressure of having to explain yourself - things like who you are attracted to, how you identify, and other insensitive, inappropriate questions. Certainly, there are a lot of labels. For many people, they are a way of identifying themselves and discovering their identities; while others choose to avoid labels altogether. Our conversation helps us uncover that no matter how you identify, there is nothing to prove when you completely accept the fullness and honesty of who you are at your core.
