After she began to suffer from an unknown ailment at the age of 14 Lurancy started to display psychic abilities that no one could explain. Just before they sent her to an asylum the Vennum family was contact by a man who’s daughter Mary Roff had died 13 years earlier after suffering from a very similar ailment, after begging the Vennum family not to send Lurancy to the asylum he and Dr. E Winchester Stevens began using spiritualistic approach to healing Lurancy.
