ARTIST TALK WITH THOMAS OSTERMEIER 2019 September 13 Organizer: The Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg. Thomas Ostermeier, theatre director and artistic director for the Schaubühne theatre in Berlin, has been appointed as honorary doctor at the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, the University of Gothenburg. Thomas Ostermeier who has been a member of the artistic direction for the Schaubühne theatre in Berlin since the year 1999, is considered one of Europe’s most prominent directors. He has been called “The face of modern German theatre”, and has had great significance for the development of performing art in Germany and internationally. Ostermeier has also been one of the artistic directors for the Avignon Festival, and is professor in directing at Hochschule für Schauspielkunst "Ernst Busch", Berlin. He has published a number of books, the most recent of which is The Theatre of Thomas Ostermeier – where he writes about his method when staging dramatic texts.
