14th March 2025 Christians under siege in Syria and Democratic Republic of Congo

Topic for discussion this morning, somewhat of a somber topic, and many Christians in South Africa asking why there's not a bigger outcry for what's happening to Christians in our so-called modern day society. In recent months, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the DRC and Syria have witnessed alarming escalations in violence and murder and killings against Christian communities. In the DRC, suspected militants from the Allied Democratic Forces brutally beheaded 70 Christians in a Protestant church in Kasanga, Lombardo territory. That happened on the 13th of this year. The atrocity is part of a series of attacks that have led to the displacement of thousands and the closure of numerous churches and schools. Meanwhile, in Syria, the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime has precipitated sectarian violence, particularly targeting the Alawite communities. Reports indicate that thousands of Alawite civilians have been massacred in the coastal regions with entire families, including women and children, executed and abused. The United Nations documented only 111 civilian deaths, strangely enough, though the actual death toll is believed to be in the thousands. Now, that being said, the concurrent crisis underscored the urgent need for international attention and intervention to protect vulnerable communities and promote peace. The old saying, for evil to prosper, good man has to do nothing.
