15 | Four Steps for a Healthier Home: A Conversation with Shawna Holman

from Daily Wellness Podcast · host Melisha Meredith

We covered so much good stuff in this episode! I loved that we started with a conversation about pursuing progress and not perfection, having grace with ourselves as we strive to better our lives and homes. Shawna shared her story with us. She had some very serious health issues to the point that she almost lost her life. She wasn’t getting the answers she needed. She wasn’t getting better. So, she started learning on her own - about how to change her health and get her life back on track. For her, the healing journey began by doing an elimination diet (The Virgin Diet), and then, over time, she over-hauled her home from toxins as well. I loved how she shared about the mindset change she went through as well. She wasn’t interested in going back to her previous lifestyle because the changes improved her life so much. She describes herself as being “radically changed” by the healthy changes she was making! She was so impacted that she couldn’t help but start sharing this life-changing information with others. Shawna has two kiddos and it’s a joy to see her bringing them along with her in this health journey, making it just a normal part of their life to pursue health. She has a good balanced approach of making them aware and educated about toxins without living in fear of those things. Talking about things as they are happening, doing check-ins after eating out, and thinking about it as our job to steward our family’s health. I asked Shawna about how she handles “push back” in her life with people that don’t agree with her lifestyle or don’t understand it. She said, “I’m not trying to tell anyone else how to live. I’m sharing how I live in case it’s helpful to someone else.” As far as HOW to remove toxins from our home, she shared about the ALLT Method. A - Assess, what can I minimize? L - Let go, get rid of things you don’t use. (Reduce clutter and chemicals.) L - Level up, when you run low on a product start looking for a healthier alternative. T - Time, continue to do these steps Stay within your emotional, financial and mental capacities! Start in one area (think small), start in the areas that have things you use daily. Every small change adds up to a big difference in your life! We talk about how to choose new products, how to do it in a way that is within your budget and how to do all of this without adding stress to our lives.
