The 1938 pecan shellers strike in San Antonio, Texas, was a significant event in labor history, particularly for the Mexican American community. The strike began in January 1938 and lasted for several months, primarily involving Mexican American women who worked in the pecan-shelling industry.

The pecan shellers, who were predominantly women, were protesting against low wages, poor working conditions, and unfair labor practices by the employers. Many of these workers were immigrants or descendants of immigrants from Mexico and were often subjected to exploitation and discrimination. But one woman, Emma Tenayuca will be remembered most.
