160 A Diagnosis Is Not A Prognosis

from Unfuckwithable · host Danya Douglas Hunt

Recorded in her parents' truck, overlooking the ocean at sunrise. She's back with family because her sister had a scary diagnosis and just came through mastectomy surgery. So the question she opens with isn't a tidy one. How do you stay in gratitude, how do you stay in your own knowing, when the outside reality is mirroring back the complete opposite of it?And she widens it in the next breath, because it's the same machinery whether it's a health scare, a failed credit card payment, a deal that fell through, or a betrayal you didn't see coming. This one goes back to her athletic therapy years. Olympic athletes, her own private clinic, and the thing she noticed in that room that has changed how she's read every label since. Unless the mechanism was obvious, you fell off your bike and broke your leg, most of what walked through her door had almost nothing to do with where the pain was. Something got tight somewhere else. Something got weak two years ago. And the body built these genuinely beautiful compensation patterns to get through the day. They work. That's the trouble. They work for years. There's a person in this episode who crawled into her clinic. An ex-athlete, carrying so much shame about it they could barely say it out loud, who had been told they were never going to walk again. Three months later they were Olympic lifting. She reads out a passage in here that takes apart what prayer actually is, and then names the exact place almost everybody gets it wrong straight afterwards. There's a metaphor about a movie theatre that she anchors the whole back half in, and once you've heard it you'll struggle to unsee it. And there's a beat about losing her soul dog, and the grief she deliberately chose to be fully present for, which is the price she pays to make the point about polarity land properly. What she won't do in this episode is reassure you about how it turns out. What she'll do instead is separate three things you've probably been treating as one: a diagnosis and a prognosis, acceptance and resignation, resistance and change.Because the snapshot in front of you, the number in your account, the label, the result, is what was. It's an amalgamation of thoughts and states you were running months ago, finally showing up as a receipt. It only becomes the truth about what's next at the exact moment you deem it true.If you've been reading your current reality as a verdict, this is the one.Signal. My deepest 1:1. For when you're building something most people around you can't span, so you've quietly stopped saying it out loud. Someone beside you who can hold the whole thing while you move at your speed.
