161. Intergenerational Trauma

from Tend HER Wild Podcast

In today’s episode we explore how the trauma can extend from one generation to the next through the intersection of our biology and our psychology.  This topic was briefly touched on during the recent free online Tend Her course, and lots of questions came from participants so we decided to dive a little deeper into the topic, and explore our personal lineages and what they might be holding. Today we discuss: What intergenerational trauma really is and the “7 generation” theory that says the healing we do can stretch backwards to our ancestors for 7 generations and forward for 7 generations to our offspring. A common question of “if I don’t have biological kids” does this apply to me? How the interest and research on this area came from studying the children of Holocaust survivors and finding they had 300% more mental health problems than the average population. There are 2 ways to work with intergenerational trauma: repeat it or be the cycle breaker. Why understanding allostatic load is important. Examples from our life of cycles we are attempting to break so our children won’t carry them forward.
