163. Rage as Teacher

from Tend HER Wild Podcast

In today’s episode we return to the book “Women Who Run with the Wolves” for inspiration and discuss the teachings around the concept of rage.  We explore the idea that rage is a teacher and allowing ourselves to listen and learn from our rage can be powerful and boost personal growth. As women we are often taught to be nice good girls, so rage can make us feel guilt and shame for being out of control.  The notion that not showing our rage, robs us of our voice and our authentic nature. Today we discuss: The concept of rage, how it impacts hope, and how it has shown up for each of us as a teacher. How rage connects to the wild woman archetype and that the natural state of being for the wild woman is “wolf”, which is not vicious until provoked. The idea that we all have rage in us because it’s a natural emotion and yet we can’t stay in rage too long or it will rob us of our agency and creativity. We share what is currently causing us rage in our culture: greed, loss of humanity and compassion and the objectification of women and loss of rights. What happens if we suppress our rage and don’t express it safely and move through it. Dr. Estes’ suggestion of “going to the mountains” to sit quietly with the  deep wise part of ourself and Betsy’s recent silent retreat experience. How we can work with rage and get to a place of forgiveness, understanding that forgiveness is a fluid 4 stage process, not a single act, with layers and seasons.
