Até os 12 anos de idade, ele tinha sido expulso do curso de seminarista, quase morreu após cair de uma altura de 15 metros, fugiu da casa do pai após uma briga com ele e foi morar com uma prostituta no centro de São Paulo. Esse foi o início da vida do fundador do Garantia, Pactual (hoje BTG), Selic, Cetip e outras várias instituições e mecanismos que usamos até hoje no mercado. Luiz Cezar Fernandes, 83 anos, é um dos maiores pensadores do mercado e fez grandes projetos com Jorge Paulo Lemann, Paulo Guedes, André Jakurski e André Esteves, tendo estudado apenas até a 6ª série. Contudo, uma saída bastante conturbada em 1999 do Pactual e prejuízos pessoais na casa de US$ 200 milhões tiraram Cezar dos holofotes. Em 2021, um novo episódio na vida de Luiz Cezar: mais de 100 dias internados por causa da Covid (sendo 66 dias em coma).
