極楽いる6種類の鳥たち「六鳥」について、一つづつお話しいたします。1番目は「白鵠（びゃっこく/びゃっこう）」。「鵠」は「くぐい」という鳥で、白鳥もしくは鶴のような鳥だそうです。「鵠」のつく鳥は「黄鵠（こうこく）＝中国の言い伝えで、死者を甦らせる神話的な鳥」、「鴻鵠（こうこく）＝おおとり、くぐい」で、史記にも「燕雀いずくんぞ 鴻鵠の志を知らんや」と登場します。
