富士市で生まれ、戦前から戦後にかけて現在の沼津市江浦で創作を続けた世界的版画家山口源。2026年は彼の没後50年という節目の年です。山口の作品や資料を多く所蔵する沼津市の沼津市庄司美術館（モンミュゼ沼津）は7月15日の命日に合わせ、回顧展を予定。6月末まで同館で開催中の第92回日本版画協会沼津巡回展でも、山口源の名前を冠した「山口源賞」の受賞者の作品が多数出品されています。今回は静岡県が世界に誇る山口の足跡を、静岡新聞論説委員の橋爪充さんが読み解きます。
