Prof Brusselle shares his thoughts about the current problems faced by adults who have asthma. Key issues include i) getting the diagnosis right as early as possible, and ii) the use of a single inhaler containing an inhaled corticosteroid and a quick acting, long acting bronchodilator (formoterol) for relief of symptoms as well as maintenance therapy. In this way the inflammation caused by asthma is dealt with at the same time as relieving symptoms.
