Steve recalls the lead-up to that race, including taking the World’s Best in the Half Marathon at the Great North Run two weeks out, with Nic Bideau desperately getting the story to the papers back home and enduring the depletion diet. Steve shares the significance of the event at that time in history, and what it meant for the eventual winner of the women’s race Uta Pippig to run through the Brandenburg Gate for the first time as well as the differences between what the race was back then in terms of the build-up and atmosphere compared to the spectacle it is now. Recounting the moments of crossing the finish line, Steve talks about what the victory meant to him, what he would have done differently and the aftermath of his career profile.
