219. Saying ONLY Black women did everything in the election and beyond is wrong

from The UPstander's Podcast with Dr. Omekongo · host Dr. Omekongo Dibinga

As a child, I learned that it was Black men like Dr. King who did everything to make sure Black people got civil rights. The real stories of Black women leaders of this time period were not shared with me. Coretta Scott King and other prominent women were not accurately portrayed to me. What I am seeing now is a story that is reversing the narrative and now saying that it's Black women who do and did everything and now they're tired of doing it for everyone and checking out. 1) That is not accurate and 2) you can't check out from a world built on White supremacy. You have to defeat it. We need to create a new narrative that accurately speaks to what we have accomplished in this society as a people and stop allowing ourselves to be divided. When I read the woman's note in this post, her story speaks as if it is only Black women who were enslaved, couldn't vote, etc. We need to tell a more accurate story. #election #kamala #kamalaharris #blacksolidarity #slavery #corettascottking #malcomx #martinlutherking STAY CONNECTED: Instagram | http://www.instagram.com/omekongo Twitter | http://www.twitter.com/omekongo Facebook | http://www.facebook.com/omekongo Website | http://www.omekongo.com Learn more about your ad choices.
