I find it frustrating to hear people call what's happening in Gaza anything but a genocide. My response and your response to them should be: "So what?" "Now what?" While there are supposed to be real consequences for the enacting of a genocide, there can be other consequences for those engaging in mass atrocities, ethnic cleansing, and more. Many people who say that what is happening in Gaza is not a genocide, rarely offer any solutions to stop what is actually happening there now and engage in other forms of whataboutism about other atrocities in the world, past and present. I get that there are differing opinions on the #tuskegee dress code decision but the main notion of Black bodies being policed with this decision and respectability politics just doesn't apply in this case. If people can spend 5 hours getting ready and going to and back from concerts, they can put on regular close to go to a 75 minute class. I don't think the code is necessary for the cafeteria but college is about preparing students for the world they are about to inherit and in this world, presentation and first impressions matter. I respect that people have differing opinions about Tuskegee's dress code. The part I cannot accept is the idea that dressing down is a Black cultural thing and having Black students dress up is some form of respectability politics. Black people have always had professional standards in all aspects of our history because of the respect we have for ourselves, not because we were trying to fit into White spaces. It's so frustrating to hear people say that ICE is killing the wrong people. These are the people they WANT to kill. They want to kill protesters like Renee Good and Alex Pretti. Republicans are quick to say that they didn't hear certain comments that Trump make or posts. People are already priming the pump to blame #jasminecrockett if #jamestalarico loses. That's not right and that's not fair. I forgot to mention Haiti, which is right here in this hemisphere and what U.S. policies have and are doing there. Many within the growing progressive podcast class is becoming almost as big of a problem of the democratic consulting class. Their insistence on treating the Israel/Palestine genocide as a voting litmus test is going to convince many of their followers to stay home. I also find it disingenuous because most of them don’t use their platform to discuss the violence and genocide facing people in places like Congo and Sudan, two places where our money is directly impacting the conflicts. We are supposed to vote people into office who represent the majority of our agenda and then force them to get with the rest of our platform. That’s what our ancestors did. Many of these podcasters are going to be fine regardless of who wins. There is so much at stake right now. MAGA wants us to stay home and divided. As I said before, you can’t fight to free Palestine when you’re fighting to keep your healthcare and put gas in your car or your own civil rights at home. Trump is intentionally making our lives so we can’t fight harder for Palestine. And when was the last time these folks were out there protesting Trump like they did against Biden? I don't know how else to say it. On Bill Maher's show, he said that progressives are losing because they think all White people are racist, all men are toxic, and all billionaires are evil. Donald Trump and his administration have shown themselves to be fully racist.
