225. Why wait till your relationship is in crisis?
from Geordie Lass & Doc Sass Hosted by Dr. Anna Stratis & Sara Liddle
Why do we so often wait until our relationship is in crisis before we do something about it? In this episode of Geordie Lass & Doc Sass, we explore the slow, often almost invisible slide from feeling connected to simply going through the motions. Sometimes there’s a big event that knocks a relationship sideways. But often it’s much quieter. We stop making time for each other. Appreciation disappears. Conversations become functional. We tell ourselves it’s just a busy month, work is stressful or things will get better when life calms down. Until one day we wonder: how did we get here? ❤️ THE DESK OF LOVE We start with research into what happens when women earn more than their male partners, and why the real issue may be less about who brings home the bigger salary and more about who is still carrying the mental load. When one person is managing the appointments, childcare, holidays, meals, laundry and household admin, resentment can quietly build. And yes, we somehow end up discussing that age-old relationship battleground: the dishwasher. 🔥 HOT TOPIC: WHY DO WE WAIT UNTIL CRISIS? Why are relationship problems sometimes so much easier to see with hindsight? We talk about how easy it is to explain away the warning signs and explore: • The difference between compromise and toleration • How relationships slip into transactional mode • Why familiarity can keep us stuck • Noticing disconnection before it becomes a crisis • Using anger as a force for positive change • Why repair needs to continue after the argument • The small, everyday behaviours that keep us connected Relationships aren't built only through holidays, anniversaries and grand gestures. They're shaped by what happens between us every day: appreciation, conversation, affection and choosing to make space for each other. 💌 LISTENER QUESTION Our listener discovers that her husband pretended to go to work but instead took the day off to go on a nine-mile hike and spend the day swimming with his ex-girlfriend. He insists nothing happened and it was completely platonic. But he lied about it. And this isn't the first time honesty has been an issue. So where does she go from here? We discuss why the secrecy matters, how repeated lying damages trust and why confronting something at the height of your anger isn't always the best way to get the conversation you need. We also explore non-negotiables, boundaries and the bigger question: Is the relationship you want actually possible with the person you're with? Not every struggling relationship needs to end. We've seen incredible turnarounds when both people genuinely commit to change. But sometimes awareness means being willing to see what's actually happening rather than what we hope might happen. ❤️ CONNECT WITH US Sara Liddle – Geordie Lass [email protected] www.inflori.co.uk Relationship Reset: www.inflori.co.uk/reset Anna Stratis – Doc Sass [email protected] www.coachdocanna.com Have a relationship dilemma you'd like us to discuss?
