In 2017, a ten-year-old girl named Rebekah went viral when she appeared at a rally with a simple sign: "I'm the scary transgender person the media warned you about." Her mom and dad, Jamie and ELCA pastor Chris Bruesehoff, had been raising Rebekah with her two younger brothers in a relatively safe "bubble of protection" where most people Rebekah met were kind and affirming.
