On March 19, 2003, the United States invaded Iraq. There were no weapons of mass destruction. There was no imminent threat. Twenty-three years later to the day, we are three weeks into a war with Iran. Trump’s own counterterrorism director just resigned saying Iran posed no imminent threat. His Director of National Intelligence refused to answer the question under oath. The president says the war ends when he feels it in his bones. The Pentagon is asking for $200 billion more. They fired the State Department’s oil experts six months before starting a war that shut down the world’s oil supply. They decommissioned anti-mine ships two months before a war everyone knew would involve mining. The Defense Secretary declared “no quarter” - a war crime - and called for a “patriotic press.” And service members are still being used as props for photo ops and fundraising emails.
