24: “It has nothing to do with me”

from Path to Warren Podcast · host Matt Warren

In this episode, I share about a recent vacation with a family member who was clearly struggling with addictions. The person chose to disagree with me on just about everything and I could feel the tension in the air most all of the trip. I have to realize that this behavior has nothing to do with me and everything to do with their current state of issues. Telling myself that “it has nothing to do with me“ helps me a lot. Remembering what life was like when I was deep in active addiction helps me to remember the pain and the heat that I had for myself. How can I love another family member if I cannot love myself?
