We all know and have experienced bullies. We all know that the way to defeat evil is to for a good person to metaphorically (and sometimes actually) have a bigger gun. We learn this in the backyard battles with siblings and friends, in the school playground and in almost every movie we have ever watched. So when Jesus advises his followers to respond to a personal injustice by not resisting an evil person he was saying something that had never been said before.
