It wasn't just a fight between "Spaniards and Indigenous people"; in reality, Hernán Cortés teamed up with thousands of other Indigenous groups (like the Tlaxcalans) who were tired of paying taxes and being controlled by the Aztecs. Together, they surrounded the city for nearly three months, cutting off all the food and water coming in from the mainland.
