#253 Let's Talk Why Temperature Could Be the Missing Piece in Your Sleep with Sam from Oak Sleep

from Let's Just Talk · host Adam Martin

**Correction in Episode**In the episode Sam misspoke about heart‑rate variability (HRV). A lower resting heart rate (RHR) during sleep is good, but HRV works the other way around. A higher HRV at night generally reflects better recovery and stronger parasympathetic activity. HRV should stay fairly steady across the night rather than being lower. And just to clarify, healthy sleepers tend to show predictable heart‑rate changes across sleep stages, not big irregular spikes.  In this episode of Let’s Just Talk, I sit down with Sam, founder of Oak Sleep, to talk about the role temperature plays in sleep quality and why he set out to create a more affordable, subscription-free alternative to the major sleep technology products on the market.Sam shares the story behind Oak Sleep, how their mattress surface temperature control system works, and why regulating body temperature overnight can help with falling asleep, staying asleep, deeper sleep and overall recovery. Our conversation also explores the growing frustration many consumers have with subscription-based health technology, and why Sam believes simplicity, accessibility and customer ownership matter.Sam and I then go on to discuss sleep hygiene fundamentals, including the importance of routine, stress management, nutrition, and not becoming overly obsessed with tracking every health metric. We also cover wearables, HRV, EMFs, temperature-related sleep disruption, who may benefit most from sleep technology, and where Oak Sleep is heading as the business expands beyond Australia. If you're someone that would benefit from a conversation about sleep, business, health tech, and the balance between using technology to improve your life without letting it over complicate it, then this is one is not to be missedWebsite: https://www.oaksleep.com.au/Instagram : @OakSleepFaceBook: OakSleep
