258 - I don't have time for that...

Yesterday we talked about dedicated, protected time. Along that line, we seem to never have enough time. But what if instead of saying ‘we don’t have time for that’, we rephrased it as ‘that’s not a priority right now’. That simple phrasing will help you and your staff and your team understand where your priorities are at. Think about the last thing you said you didn’t have time for (in the context of your team) For me it was “we don’t have time to interview every candidate for captainship”. If i rephrase that to ‘it’s not a priority to interview every candidate for captainship’, I would stand by that statement. It’s not. Each player got to make a speech, as long as they liked, to explain to their teammates why they want and are qualified for that position. I don’t feel it necessary to interview them each individually. That might change in future years, but this year, it’s not. Personally, I challenge you to think of the last thing you said ‘i dont have time for’. For me, it was working out. Quite honestly, I don’t really. But between walking the dog 2-3x/day, being out there with our team, and doing what i do as a PT, I didn’t feel it was a priority to work out. Phrasing it that way, I realize how crazy that sounds. If I want to set an example to our players and my staff and my community, I need to exercise and stay healthy. So think about how you’re using that phrase ‘I don’t ahve time for that’, and instead, change it to ‘that’s not a priority right now’. See if it changes any choices you’re making with your time.
