Send a textThe Women's Health, Wisdom, and... WINE! podcast is a weekly conversation with practitioners, providers, patients & healers about complex reproductive medicine & women's health challenges, the value of an integrative approach to these challenges, many of the women's health topics you're already thinking about & uncomfortable talking about & my personal favorite... WINE!To end the year, we're talking about ten key questions that you, the patient need to ask your obstetrician/gynecologist so that you can ensure not only better care, but also a better patient/provider partnership. To begin, we're going to start off with some basics as we approach the topic of curing versus healing. We often use these terms synonymously; however, they have very different implications in the lives of people with complex health challenges. For the sake of this and future conversations, we will talk about CURING as the elimination of all evidence  of disease. However, one can cure without healing, and one can also heal without curing. In most medical schools and residency programs, the majority of the training focuses on curing; however, very little (if any) attention is given to healing. Heal a fracture or a gaping surgical wound? Of course, but healing a person? Nope. . . That's just crazy talk.HEALING is the therapeutic process of making or becoming sound or healthy again. Healing may be operationally defined as the personal experience of the transcendence of suffering. As physicians, providers, and practitioners we can enhance our abilities as facilitators of healing by recognizing, diagnosing, minimizing, and relieving suffering, as well as helping patients transcend suffering through various integrative modalities. In short, to cure means to control or eliminate a disease that disrupts the healthy functioning of an individual's body, mind, or spirit. In contrast, to heal means to make whole that which has been broken. The hashtag for the podcast is #nourishyourflourish.
