Fitness Friday Interview: Go4Life

Welcome to The Not Old Better Show, I'm Paul Vogelzang, and this is episode 267.

That's right, Get Ready! And Get Moving, and Go4Life. Today's show is part of our Fitness Friday Go4Life Month celebration series, and it's another great one in our Fitness Friday programs. We've got an important story about an important program from the National Institute on Aging, one of the 27 institutes and Centers at the National Institutes of Health.

Do you want to learn easy ways to increase your activity level in everyday life? The National Institute on Aging, part of the National Institutes of Health annual Go4Life Month celebration is in full swing this month, September 2018. This year's theme is "Get Ready! Get Moving! Go4Life!" , and we're at the end of the month, which means the 2018 celebration is wrapping up. But, remember, throughout the year you can keep up your commitments because the program offers free resources to help older adults work out a bit more, push themselves a little harder and try all types of exercise.

Today we've asked NIA, Go4Life partner, Randy Thoreson, from the National Park Service to join us. This will be another fun, rewarding, and special conversation because Randy Thoreson is the Outdoor Recreation Planner at the National Park Service and has been doing his job with the National Park Service for 42 years. As a matter of fact, Randy Thoreson is joining us from his National Park Service offices in Minnesota, on his last day of service. That's right, Randy is retiring from the National Park Service and we have the enjoyable opportunity of hearing from someone who has done much, contributed mightily and been a real leader for outdoor, multigenerational activities, focused on the 55+ age community. Perfect for our Not Old Better audience.

Also perfect for our Not Old Better audience is Go4Life director, Stephanie Dailey, who's joining us today, too. Stephanie Dailey works closely with the NIA partners, like the National Park Service to better understand the aging process, as well as diseases and conditions that can occur as we grow older. Go4Life is an evidence based exercise program. An evidence-based program is a program that has been rigorously evaluated in other words, it has been shown that it is supported by data, not just based on theory.

Please join me in welcoming via internet phone, Stephanie Dailey and Randy Thoreson.

Julia-ism Julia Mariano Hi, I’m Julia Mariano, host of the Julia-ism podcast. Join me every week to talk about “Julia-isms.” The term coined by my mom, these are only things I would think, let alone say out loud. From being a workaholic to why sometimes friendship don’t work out, I am not shy about anything. It’s weird being a twenty-something living in today’s world, especially being a 24 year-old working as a pediatric neuroscience nurse, and I want to talk about it! If you can relate, tune in so we can discuss. P.S., this show is much better when you have a sweet and salty snack to enjoy as you listen.Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/juliaismpodcast/ Personal Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/juliiamariiano/My ShopMy for products mentioned in episodes: <a href="https:// Behind Their Success Podcast Abs Mechial I started working in my dad's convenience store when I was about 11 years old (cliche, I know) Since then, I have not stopped working. I’ve had many jobs and worked with lots of inspiring and successful people. I then set up my own business, and I have crossed paths with many other successful entrepreneurs and business owners. From a very early age, I was always intrigued by how some people would achieve so much, yet others would struggle.I carried this through my entire working career. When I started a new role, I would often spend a lot of time observing and studying the top performers. Over the years, I have noticed patterns in overachievers, many of which I have incorporated into my work, business and lifestyle. I truly believe we work so much better when we collaborate and learn from each other, whether learning positive habits and skills to learning from each other's failures and shortfalls.I have started a podcast where I speak to high performers within various industrie OGs Not Old Heads Oktane and Shug The OGs Not Old Heads Podcast is your go-to podcast for the latest and greatest in the world of Hip-Hop, hosted by the dynamic duo, Oktane and Shug. The Gambler by Katherine Thurston Loyal Books Clodagh, 18 years old, is the eldest daughter of Dennis Asshlin, an Irish gentleman who lives in an area of Ireland called Orristown. Dennis is passionate, proud and indebted to no one. But, Dennis has an obsession with gambling that is leading the family to ruin. When tragedy strikes, Clodagh finds herself in a situation where she must defend the family honor because “no Asshlin is ever obliged to anyone”. She marries a man she does not love who is many times her age and is thrust from adolescence to adulthood literally overnight. Clodagh travels to Europe and mingles with people of society and fashion which through her immaturity, she believes is her right. She finds instead uncertainty, despondency, and deceit. Her emotions are constantly in battle with reality as she discovers her society acquaintances are not the “friends” she believes them to be. During her visit to Europe, Clodagh discovers that she too is burdened with the Asshlin curse for gambling which eventually leads to mo
