3: Having and Being: Two Different Modes of Existence

from Rethinking Humanity · host Lacey Delayne Hunt

In Episode 3, we lead in with quotes from chapter 1 of Erich Fromm's book To Have or To Be, which describe differences between the two modes of existence: The Having Mode and The Being Mode. We give a positive #COVID-19 update, as well as dive into more in-depth description and discussion around the two different modes of being.  We present two poems which describe each mode. We do a shallow dive into evidence of the dominance of the having mode of existence, as it appears in our language and commonly used phrases. We discuss later the characteristics of being, and our friend Richard shares a special story with us to end the podcast.  We hope you enjoy! Follow us on Twitter: @rthnknghumanity @laceydelayneFollow us on IG: @laceydelayne @larreasonya--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rethinkinghumanity/messageSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rethinkinghumanity/support This is a public episode.
