In this episode, we use the final section of Erich Fromm's To Have or To Be as a springboard for our discussion. In it, he poses the question, is the movement to a society that accommodates our humanity and our human needs more directly really possible? In this interview with Amelia Pang, the Author of Made in China: A Prisoner, An SOS Letter, and the Hidden Cost of our Consumption, we discuss the dark realities of the source of much of our retail purchases. In episode 20, we continue our discussion from before our month on the theme of love - in Fromm's ideas on how to build a society based on the being mode - a society where we can live and flourish in our human nature, and not have to suppress it due to the needs of the demanding capitalistic machine. We discuss three of the many ways he suggested we do that. Yea, we know it's already March...but we had to do oneeee more episode on the theme of love!  To start episode 19, we discuss where we are about a year into the pandemic with regards to recovery as a nation from a health perspective as well as an economic perspective. We also reveal what our exciting news is for April 3, the 1st year anniversary of the podcast. And marvel at the fact that we have been doing the podcast for a year now!  Diving into the content, we discuss what self love is, what it isn't and why it is important. We also mention some ways we can show ourselves self love once we have realized it is an awesome thing to prioritize in our lives.  The outro is a throwback to episode 14, in which we discussed the ugliness of bureaucracy and the need for a new model for interaction and management of peoples and societies. We discuss love being a verb and not a noun. Love is an active choice. Society presents a consumer driven version of love both in movies, literature, and advertising.
