Internal are inside your mind like thoughts, emotions, and beliefs. External are people, places, sounds, sights, smells, times of year, etc. Steps to managing your triggers... 1. Reclaim your mind a. Accept that you're triggered, don't fight it b. Get to a safe space c. Tell yourself things are different and be present d. Shift negative thoughts to positive ones (even if uncomfortable) 2. Don't ignore it! 3. Reflect, identify, and eliminate triggers a. Most people never learn and repeat destructive patterns b. Learn but don't dwell c. Eliminate the trigger or create a game plan for future d. Put 2 columns on piece of paper, 1st column list triggers, 2nd write down how you will eliminate it or the game plan for the future.
