from TAO-Living with Lou Corleto

Master sergeant JARAD UNDERWOOD Jarad Underwood is an Air Force Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape (SERE) Specialist and the Manager for the Air Force Combatives Program. In this capacity, he works extensively to integrate character and leadership development, ethical decision-making under stress, and stress recovery into the Air Force Combatives Program. As a SERE Specialist and Prior Infantry, Marine Jarad has spent nearly 18 years working in the military and has multiple deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and various other Joint Task Forces. In this episode we discuss: The 3 C's: Courage, Character, Competency What do I need to do? What am I able to do? What am I willing to do? Stress recovery Ethical decision-making under stress. Ethical decision-making refers to the process of evaluating and choosing among alternatives in a manner consistent with ethical principles. In making ethical decisions, it is necessary to perceive and eliminate unethical options and select the best ethical choice. The OODA loop.  OODA loop is a way of thinking about the decision-making process. Broken down, the OODA loop stands for four distinct yet interrelated, smaller loops: observe, orient, decide, and act. The OODA loop encourages decision-makers to think critically, anticipate threats, and neutralize them before they become critical.
