#31 When You Mix College With ADHD

from College Is Fine, Everything's Fine · host Dr. Sarah Olivo and Dr. Liz Seidler

ADHD might have more myths surrounding it than any other diagnosis. What words do you think of when you hear those four letters? The answer probably depends on the messages you got from your friends, family and community. And it might depend on whether you know you have it or simply think you might. Either way, college has a way of having us rethink what we learned at home. And hopefully we can help you think a bit more openly about what ADHD really is and how it might look on campus. In this episode, we talk to Dr. Yamalis Dias, a clinical psychologist and college professor at NYU. As one of the top minds in ADHD, she most recently appeared on the CBS Morning Show to launch the award-winning documentary about ADHD, The Disruptors, in which she was featured as an expert. Listen in as she:-debunks the most common ADHD myths-highlights how ADHD can be helpful in many, many ways-gives some great metaphors for how ADHD works-talks about what ADHD is driven by, and-offers tips on how to manage it once you know it’s there. Resources: To find out more about ADHD, visit Chadd.com or watch The Disruptors documentary:https://chadd.org/understanding-adhd/ https://DisruptorsFilm.comTo hear more from Dr. Diaz, find her on Doctor Radio or check out her Linked In page for media appearances and interviews: https://www.siriusxm.com/channels/doctor-radio https://www.linkedin.com/in/yamalis-diaz-ph-d-0a2a738b/ Want to share your story, give us feedback or offer up an episode idea?
