33. How To Make a Family Tech Policy

from Gospel Tech with Nathan Sutherland · host Purposely

A family tech policy, or what we call a Family Tech Framework, is a powerful tool to re-establishing tech norms. It can also be something we agree with in theory, but have a really hard time implementing in our own families. It can simply feel too overwhelming to apply to real life. Where do we start?Today we're going to talk through the process of how to make a family tech policy. There are really three steps:1) Start with the Gospel. We have to start with heart change, otherwise we're just training our kids how to fake it well. (8:29)2) Establish the two types of tech: Tool and Drool. (14:02)3) Build those family norms in five areas: time, place, content, priorities, and safety. (23:10)In the podcast I mention the Online Gospel Tech Workshop Anna and I have created to help families through this process of creating a Tech Framework. You can find the Online Gospel Tech Workshop here: https://gospeltechworkshop.thinkific.com/  You can check out a free preview of the content and sign-up to have full access when it goes live on the 21st! The workshop comes with a 100 page workbook PDF to help you walk through this with your family or even work through the process in small groups. If you have any gamers in your household you may also find this game review resource helpful: "Should My Child Play This Game?": https://youtu.be/22U1mc0t0mw
