As the second single from his Dangerous album, the song represents Jackson’s deliberate shift from the sound of Quincy Jones to the style of new jack swing. Co-written and produced with Teddy Riley and Bernard Belle, the track achieved both commercial and critical success, peaking at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reaching #1 on the R&B chart. In this video, we also discuss the Remember the Time short film that accompanied the single, which premiered on FOX in February 1992. Directed by John Singleton, the then-24-year-old filmmaker behind *Boyz n the Hood*, the film was a stylized portrayal of ancient Egypt featuring an all-Black cast, including Eddie Murphy, Iman, and Magic Johnson. The project was a groundbreaking celebration of Black royalty and cultural heritage, realized through elaborate costume design, choreography by Fatima Robinson, and pioneering visual effects.
