The series starred comedian Ellen DeGeneres and is notable during the 90s since Ellen, the comedian, just came out as gay, but also her character in the series was the first main television character to come out as gay, paving the way for more LGBTQ+ representation in the media, and thus bringing LGBTQ+ people to America's forefront.
