36 | 7 Ways to Show Compassion and Encouragement as a SAHM – Mom Life Devotion

from Time for Mom | Self-Esteem, Routines, Mom Guilt, Priorities, Comparison, Devotional, Self-Worth · host Cheryl Davis - Wife, Mom & Daughter of the King

Have you watched someone fall apart and think, "That's no big deal. Why are they being so stupid?" Do you bear the scars from people's careless words when you were needing a community instead of a judge? Why is it so much easier to have compassion for a struggling child than it is a struggling adult? If so, you’re in the right place.  Hi Beautiful, I’m Cheryl — wife, girl mom, aspiring SAHM, and Jesus follower. I learned the not-so-secret ways to become the mom my girls needed by prioritizing Jesus, finding routines that worked, rejecting mom guilt when I failed, and learning what self‑esteem really is. This podcast is for moms who want Biblical encouragement and real‑life devotions. If you’re ready to build faith while washing dishes, become the mom you hoped you’d be, and love yourself the way your babies do — grab your earbuds and lock the bathroom door for a minute alone. It’s Time for Mom. In this episode, I’m sharing a snowstorm inspired lesson of compassion so you can see your struggles and the struggles of others in a new light.  It's easy to discount other people's struggles. What isn't a big deal to me, is for another. What is easy to deal with for one person may make me want to curl up in a ball and cry. What I am equipped physically and spiritually to handle, is not the same as the next person. Here are 7 things that you can do or not do to show compassion to your friends and family when they are struggling in life: Listen. Do not interject with a "It could be worse.", that makes it worse. Let them lament and be compassionate. Only offer advice after being asked and go forward with prayer. Please don't talk about how the enemy is attacking them, let alone stand there and rebuke demons. That's not always the case and saying things like that creates a lot of hurt, confusion, and sometimes even bitterness against you. Love them where they are, in the midst of their heartache. Silence is okay, especially in grief. Sit with them, again, silence is okay and even preferred. Job's friends sat with him in his grief and torment. When they tried to justify his circumstances and perceived 'punishment', they got rebuked by God. Romans 12:15, "Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep."
