3671 From Confession to Connection

from Create Your Now with Kristianne Wargo

Parents don't like being mean, but it is our responsibility to train up our children where they are to go.  Therefore, as a parent, how do you walk the fine line from confession to connection? Because one of the toughest things we must do is bridge that gap.  Desire to be supported and encouraged by other like-minded women? Join us at the Kairos FREE Online Community. https://createyournow.com We need to find the happy medium that allows our children to face the truth in their lives so they can grow and be transformed into who they are becoming.  And that takes work! It's not something you just wake up to with all the tools in your toolbox and can renovate accordingly. It takes conversation after conversation after timeout after grounding after taking away the tablet or phone. This is not a quick fix "I got it" mom job!! This goes on and on and on. It never ends. You know with today being Good Friday, I can't help but think about Jesus and His conversation with God the Father.  Jesus expressed the concept of doing what He desired versus what His Father in Heaven desired. In Matthew 26:39, Jesus prays, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will." This verse highlights the internal conflict Jesus faced, ultimately choosing to align His will with that of His Father, demonstrating obedience, sacrifice, and love. Jesus concludes in Matthew 26:42— He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done." Jesus came back to His disciples and found them sleeping again. He left for the third time and after returning, told His disciples that "the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners." (Matthew 26:45) Yet Jesus knew the outcome. God the Father prepared Him for such a time as this. And whether or not we want to believe it, this was real to Jesus. He felt the pain and the agony of what was to come.  Our children need to understand that there are consequences to what they do, good or bad, and they need to be ready to accept them accordingly. But that training comes from us as their parents.  We have to model the way God the Father modeled to God the Son (the Son of Man). Otherwise, our children will miss the boat. So we must sacrifice comfort for the betterment of our children. The K.I.S.S. ~ Sacrifice comfort! Sacrificing comfort is more for us than for them. We have to do the hard stuff so they can live and impact with greater simplicity. Teaching them right from wrong every day keeps our children grounded.   To bridge the gap from confession to connection with their children, parents can incorporate the following practices: 1. Practice Forgiveness: Just as Jesus forgave those who wronged Him, parents can embody forgiveness when their children make mistakes. By showing forgiveness, parents not only relieve their children of guilt but also pave the way for a deeper connection based on understanding and grace. 2. Offer Guidance with Love: Jesus's teachings were filled with love and compassion, even when delivering guidance or discipline. Parents can emulate this approach by providing constructive feedback and setting boundaries out of love, rather than out of anger or frustration. By offering guidance with empathy and understanding, parents can strengthen the bond with their children. 3. Foster Open Communication: Like the relationship between Jesus and His Father, parents and children can nurture their connection through open communication. Encouraging honest dialogues, active listening, and mutual respect creates a safe space for children to seek guidance, share their struggles, and grow through their mistakes.   The key is to build a foundation of trust and communication that enables parents to support their children's journey from confession to connection. What you are creating is the sacred space! Navigating the complexities of parenting requires a delicate harmony of discipline, forgiveness, and love. Drawing inspiration from the sacrificial love exemplified on Good Friday and the teachings of Jesus, parents can guide their children through their mistakes with empathy, understanding, and grace.   By embracing forgiveness, offering loving guidance, and fostering open communication, parents can move from moments of confession to deeper connections with their children, embodying the enduring bond of love and redemption.
