#368Okinawa trip ②:A surprising story from Kume Island(先週の続きです。) (This is a continuation from last week.)Right next to Kume Island is another island called Ojima, and I heard an interesting story about it.Back around 1966, there was no bridge connecting the two islands. Children from Ojima used to travel to their school on Kume Island, about 800 meters away, by riding stilts that were around two meters tall! When they got tired, they would face each other and support one another while taking a break.Riding stilts already sounds scary, but I also can’t imagine not being able to get off them easily. That must have been pretty frightening, too.【Today’s words】竹馬(たけうま)/ stilts通う(かよう)/ to commute; to go regularly (to school, work, etc.)向かい合う(むかいあう)/ to face each other支える(ささえる)/ to support休憩する(きゅうけいする)/ to take a break★This post is also available on the broadcast channel (Japanese daily tips) of my Instagram. 【https://www.instagram.com/channel/AbbOi9lyhNtGwo6A/?igsh=enhqNGRyajhobnZ5】
