37| The 3 Things I'd Focus on First If I Had to Rebuild My Chair

from Cutting Through It | Hair Stylists, Clientele, Income, Salon, Cosmetologist · host Sherri Brodie | Hairstylist, Business Coach

When hairstylists first get licensed, it's easy to believe that success comes from working harder, posting more, or trying to do what the successful stylists around us are doing. The problem? Most of us are trying to build a business without understanding where we are on the journey. In this episode, I'm sharing what I would do differently if I had to rebuild my clientele from scratch today. I also share a personal story from early in my career when I landed a job at a high-end salon that I thought was my dream opportunity. Instead, I quickly realized I wasn't prepared for the environment, the expectations, or some of the services I was being asked to perform. It was a humbling experience. But it taught me one of the most valuable lessons of my career: Every successful hairstylist goes through stages of growth, and trying to skip those stages often leads to frustration, burnout, and self-doubt. In this episode, you'll learn: The dangers of comparing yourself to stylists who are further along in their journey Why so many hairstylists struggle in the first few years behind the chair The story of the highlight client that taught me a lesson I'll never forget The three things I would focus on first if I had to rebuild my clientele today Why clarity is more important than hustle when it comes to building a loyal clientele Most importantly, I want you to walk away understanding that where you and what focus on.
