Iya Funlayo E. Wood, PhD, affectionately known as Your Favorite Scholar-Priestess, is the founder and spiritual leader of Ile Ase Ire, Inc., the founding director of the African and Diasporic Religious Studies Association (ADRSA), and the founding Dean of Ase Ire Communiversity. She is an initiated priestess in the Ifa-Orisa tradition and South Carolina- and Virginia-descended Hoodoo who earned her PhD in African and African American Studies and Religion at Harvard University. A dedicated public scholar, Iya Funlayo lectures frequently, her work has been published in scholarly and popular venues, and she has appeared in documentaries for PBS and the National Geographic Channel.
