42. Doing Golf Differently with Haley Bookholdt

from T-Time with Tori Totlis

Tori sits down with social media influencer Haley Bookholdt.  She began her golf journey at nine years old during the 2008 recession. Her father, an avid golfer himself, encouraged Haley to pursue their shared passion. In 2017, she had the opportunity to attend Elon University on a golf scholarship.  Listen in as Haley talks about the mental and emotional challenges that came with her role as a college athlete, as well as the frustrating experience of transitioning to recreational golf later on.  Haley shares her experience as an influencer on Instagram and TikTok, and how she overcame the pressures of pleasing her male followers to display her authentic self on social media, which is to be a model for fellow female golfers.  Finally, Haley talks about the future of women’s golf in our male-dominated space, and why she believes that true representation can only be achieved when more women “claim the game as their own”.  Key Highlights   As golf rounds become longer and longer, it’s become more important to find a purpose in every game to maintain your enjoyment in the sport, whether it’s for competition or simply a mode of relaxation. Haley shares her social media journey, how she built a brand on her own terms (and not based on what others, especially men, thought of her), and her future plans. The male-dominated golf world will only become more inclusive when women claim the game as their own. If you want to progress as a golfer, embrace humility; otherwise, your athletic development will only slow down.   You can also watch the episode on YouTube HERE.  For more information on the Dallas Shootout, please visit: DallasShootout.com.
